Dr. Malamed, a dentist anesthesiologist, is professor of anesthesia and medicine at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. He is the author of Handbook of Local Anesthesia; Sedation: A Guide to Patient Management; and Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office.

Medical emergencies can, and do, occur in dentistry. Dr. Malamed will review how to recognize and manage common emergency situations, including seizures, chest pain, respiratory distress and allergic reactions.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:1. Describe the signs and symptoms of seizures and chest pain
2. Describe the signs and symptoms of allergic reactions
3. Manage seizures, chest pain, allergic reactions and other emergency situations
