Dr. Carpenter graduated from Tulane Medical School and completed his residency in Preventive Medicine. In addition to his traditional medical training, he has pursued extensive studies in integrative and mind-body medicine from well-known leaders in the field of complementary medicine.

Dr. Carpenter is professor and chair for the Department of Pathology and Medicine at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry, San Francisco. He has held this position since 1986.

Dentistry and medicine recognize patient care must be more comprehensive and collaborative. To provide the best patient care, we must see global interconnections that exist throughout the body, incorporate them into treatment planning and communicate relationships to patients.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:1. Understand the current state of evidence of the oral systemic connection
2. Help patients understand the connection between their mouth and systemic diseases
3. Identify interventions for patients that will impact both oral and physical health
