Dr. Thomas has 25 years of fulltime clinical experience at the Gainesville Florida VA Medical Center. He is a Courtesy Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry and completed a residency in Oral Pathology and a fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry.

The leading causes of death in older adults are heart disease, cancer and stroke. Practitioners should be comfortable managing patients with the following geriatric conditions: heart disease and hypertension; pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac stents; stroke and TIAs.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:1. Recognize the high-risk stroke or heart disease patient
2. Understand the pathophysiology of heart disease and stroke
3. Safely provide dental care to these geriatric patients
