Dr. Thomas has 25 years of fulltime clinical experience at the Gainesville Florida VA Medical Center. He is a Courtesy Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida College of Dentistry and completed a residency in Oral Pathology and a fellowship in Geriatric Dentistry.

Life expectancy has increased from 49 to 78 in the past century. To minimize the risk of unexpected treatment sequelae, safely managing the following geriatric conditions is important: bleeding problems, polypharmacy, dementia and long-term corticosteroid use.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:1. Identify geriatric dental patients at high risk for treatment complications
2. Understand the pathophysiology of common geriatric medical conditions
3. Safely provide dental treatment to high-risk geriatric patients
