Rear Admiral Bailey is the chief dental officer for the U.S. Public Health Service and the acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions Division of Oral Health. He is board-certified in Dental Public Health.

Captain Craig Bruce has been an officer in the U.S. Public Health Service since 1992. He is the chief of pediatric dentistry stationed at Tuba City, Ariz. and is also the National Indian Health Service pediatric dental consultant.

Dr. Bruerd received her doctorate degree in public health on a Pew Fellowship from the University of Michigan. She works as a health policy consultant, currently working on contracts with the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board, the Indian Health Service Head Start Program and Head Start office.

Dr. Halliday is the chief of staff to the surgeon general of the United States. He is an assistant surgeon general and holds the rank of rear admiral in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service.

THE IHS EARLY CHILDHOOD CARIES INITIATIVE: INTERDISCIPLINARY APPROACH TO STABILIZE AND REDUCE DECAY
The Indian Health Service (IHS) Early Childhood Caries Initiative (ECC) is designed to enhance prevention and caries intervention. It includes establishment of a national oral health surveillance system to monitor ECC prevalence, approaches for reaching out to healthcare providers and partners, and prevention activities.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:1. Describe how this initiative is different than other ECC initiatives in the past
2. Tell how medical and community health partners will contribute to this effort
3. Describe objectives related to access to service, sealants, varnishes and caries stabilization
