Has juggling the multiple roles as dental professional, business owner, spouse, mother, daughter, friend and grandmother ever resulted in a ball dropping now and again? Have you ever asked yourself, “Am I doing anything well?” Have you ever wondered if your career path was on track? This program is designed to help you better understand your leadership potential and abilities. In this interactive program, three leading dentists will share data and lessons learned from clinical practice, dental industry and organized dentistry to address women dentists’ leadership and career pathways. Dr. Babo will start the day identifying the myths that have been targeted toward women dentists. Data from the ADA’s vast database of dentist surveys will provide a factual basis for discussion. She will identify past and recent trends in dental education, organized dentistry and clinical practice of women dentists, sharing what is known on the where, how and length of their clinical practices. Dr. Niessen will address lessons learned about women’s leadership from business literature. She will outline strategies for developing a career path that meets your unique needs. She will describe the benefits of mentoring and networking to one’s career development. Dr. Bonta' will close the session by sharing steps on how to “be your own brand." She will describe principles of branding, the brand promise and how to build your brand. She will use an interactive format to identify steps to take to improve your brand. Following the three presentations, the panel will take questions from the audience. At the end of the session, attendees should have a formula for identifying a career path that meets their unique needs, and for developing a plan to reach their goals for a successful dental career. By the end of the course, participants will be able to: 1. Dispel myths regarding practice patterns of women dentists 2. Understand trends in dental education, organized dentistry and clinical practice of U.S. women dentists based on the ADA database 3. List benefits to career development of mentoring and networking from business literature 4. Implement two to three steps to improve their personally professional brand
