Forecasting and demand planning should be the foundation of profitable operations because they provide a picture of the future that enables professionals to fine-tune material and capacity planning. However, in practice, forecasting often is a difficult and thankless task. Accuracy can fluctuate wildly, and there often are fundamental issues need to be addressed before positive results can be achieved.
