JoEllen Villa, Director of Clinical Services, Community Hospital of Anaconda
JoEllen Villa is a registered nurse, an employee of the Community Hospital of Anaconda, Montana. Ms. Villa has been employed at CHA for 31 years as an RN concentrating her career in the clinical area and administration including staff RN, RN supervisor, Director of Infection Control, Director of Utilization Review, Director of Nursing, and currently as Director of Clinical Services including Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Cardiopulmonary Services, Medical Imaging, Home Health, Hospice, and Social Services. Ms Villa is also a Certified Diabetes Educator overseeing the ADA Certified Diabetes Education Program at CHA. Current work in the clinical area includes EMTALA compliance, RAC Team Committee, and medical billing review of ER/convenient care, outpatient, and clinic procedures.

Duane Abbey, President, Abbey & Abbey, Consultants, Inc.
Duane C. Abbey, Ph.D. - Dr. Abbey is a management consultant and president of Abbey & Abbey, Consultants, Inc. that specializes in health care consulting and related areas. His firm is based in Ames, Iowa. Dr. Abbey earned his graduate degrees at the University of Notre Dame and Iowa State University specializing in mathematics and computer science. Dr. Abbey has published many articles in journals and has published several books on health care payment topics.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss the coding, billing and reimbursement implications for CAHs; discuss the relationship of CAHs to physicians and non-physician practitioners
Review associated compliance concerns, including provider-based status, EMTALA, CMS-855, and conditions for payment.
Review the organizational status, special considitions of participation and requirements for Critical Access Hospitals and address update issues relative to compliance.
