Description
"The amusement industry is well versed in ADA and other guest accessibility issues which address physical disabilities in the design and construction of attractions; however, the ability of people with disabilities to fully enjoy the wide array of services
offered in a facility is reliant upon other forms of
accessibility to services and information. As new
technologies in attractions incorporate more advanced audio and visual features, operators and manufacturers need to be knowledgeable about the various accessibility laws, rules, regulations and developing standards related to sight and hearing impaired guests, including standards for web accessibility. Since the internet has become a primary medium of information and communication in the amusement industry, this multimedia session will
explore how the amusement industry has and may address
information and communication accessibility issues in
physical and virtual services.

This session will also cover topics related to visual and hearing accessibility issues in the design and operation of amusement facilities. The new ADA/ABA Accessibility Guidelines replace the 1991 ADAAG. The ADA/ABA is fundamentally different from the 1991 ADAAG. The new accessibility guidelines contain requirements for attractions queue lines, signage, loading platforms and rides. They include new guidelines for parking, toilet rooms, theater areas, dry/wet play areas, pools, miniature golf and other amusement and water park elements. Many of these new requirements are not found in conventional building codes, or on the desktop of architects or contractors computers."
