As director of Avaya Labs IP Communications Research Department, Venkatesh Krishnaswamy is responsible for research and development in the areas of IP Telephony software, firmware, protocols, applications and appliances in support of Avayas product lines.
Krishnaswamy joined Bell Labs in 1991 and transitioned to Avaya Labs in 2000. Over the years he has played a key role in defining and developing strategic technologies and applications in the area of IP-based Communications. As one of the earliest researchers in the area of IP Telephony, he developed prototypes of IP-PBX, an IP Screen Phone appliance and personal multi-modal communications assistants in the mid-90s. More recently, he has led projects in areas such as IP Phone software frameworks; advanced communications applications using SIP and web services; and in defining next generation communications user experience frameworks.
Krishnaswamy holds masters and doctorate degrees in computer science from Yale University and a bachelors degree in technology from the Indian Institute of Technology. He is the author of numerous papers and articles on a variety of telecommunications and Internet topics and has been an invited speaker at numerous conferences and industry events. He holds eight US and international patents.
