Although constant attention is required to manage operations as efficiently as possible, long-term success almost always requires growth. For hospitals in competitive markets, business-as-usual strategies won't get the job done; action to spur revenue growth is required for strong competitive positioning into the future. Every hospital and health system has growth opportunities. The challenge is to identify the range of opportunities available to the organization, define what it will take to be successful in pursuing each opportunity, evaluate how well the organization is positioned to execute on the opportunity, and establish priorities.
