Stop Gambling with Class Wait Lists and Start Using Automatic Processing! (1006)
Track: Student Services

Educatsional Expertise   Focus: Banner Student
Program Code: 1006
LEAD PRESENTER / PANEL ORGANIZER / BOF LEADER :
Monika Schwartz, Associate Registrar, Duquesne University
Description
Duquesne University has used wait lists in Banner since going live with Banner 7. Our original process involved decentralized staff monitoring of reports and notification to students. In addition to being an almost completely manual process, it was unfair to students, as there was no way to enforce institutional policy regarding how much time a student had to register before the seat was offered to the next student. We have now gone through several successful registration and add/drop periods with Banner 8's automatic wait list processing functionality, with positive response from both students and advisors.

This session will cover the process of setting up automatic wait list processing, describe how it works, discuss configuration decisions, and report on our results and lessons learned. Registrar's office staff interested in implementing automatic wait list processing or any staff currently manually reviewing wait lists who would like to learn more about what Banner offers would benefit from attending this session.

By the end of the session, you will know the forms involved in setting up wait list processing, be prepared to consider what configuration options are most appropriate for your institution, and be forewarned about some of the 'gotchas'.
