Improving ODS/EDW Load performance and Streamlining ETL for EM RAP (also deploying Oracle Streams in Downstream mode) (1269)
Track: Business Intelligence and Performance Management

Educatsional Expertise   Focus: Banner Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW)
Program Code: 1269
ADDITIONAL PRESENTER / PANELIST:
Tadi Kumar, Senior Database Administrator, University of Illinois
LEAD PRESENTER / PANEL ORGANIZER / BOF LEADER :
Brian Schoudel, Asst Director, Application Support, University of Illinois
Description
Learn how University of Illinois, a very large, multi-entity institution, tailored ETL processes to stream and load just the tables and schemas that are pertinent to Recruiting and Admissions Performance, improving ETL processing runtimes and easing the support burden associated with Multi-Entity Processing (MEP). Also learn about how UOI deploys Oracle Streams in Downstream mode. We reengineered the Oracle streaming process so that the capture process was moved to the downstream database to eliminate processing overhead on Banner, increasing overall availability, enhanced cloning and lowered risk associated with streaming from Banner. This also allowed for the addition of streaming filters to further limit the volume going into the warehouse.
