Three years ago, UNCW developed a Banner Finance Certificate program to ensure the staff was knowledgeable and prepared for financial activities and responsibilities across campus. Three levels of certification are offered as well as electives with the courses involving all areas of Finance, including contract and grant management. Each session also includes a test to ensure key objectives are achieved. Departments are now considering these certifications during performance evaluations and requiring them for certain positions. It also allows employees to develop their skills in preparation for future promotions. Not only are these certifications helpful for employees to transfer between departments at UNCW but also other schools can determine the level of Banner knowledge an applicant possesses when considering hiring a former UNCW staff person.
