Description
In 2011, Purdue University executed a major infrastructure project to replace the legacy hardware for its ERP-class systems with a Converged Infrastructure platform. One of the major targets for this replacement effort was the Sungard Open Digital Campus platform deployed on AIX, Solaris and Windows. The end result of this project was to have Banner running completely within a private cloud and reducing the platform footprint to Linux and Windows. Replacing hardware itself is a daunting task, but migrating from several different platforms onto a single infrastructure solution provided many challenges and opportunities to improve. During this hardware transition, Purdue also pushed forward to migrate completely to Oracle 11g and Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g. The goals of this presentation are to present the reasoning for making such drastic changes, show a technical overview of the process to successfully re-host Banner and upgrade Oracle, the efficiencies gained, and the lessons learned along the way. Finally, this presentation will cover some of the major advantages provided by a Converged Infrastructure environment and how these solutions can be leveraged to provide redundancy and disaster recovery options.
