Description
The pace of change in every aspect of modern life is acceleration. Information technologies not only enable a great many of our basic activities, but are being organized to disrupt them. The newspaper industry, magazine publishing, music publishing, television, telephone, and other industries are being fundamentally re-cast. These industries share certain themes: all are industries that aggregate specialized resources, add value to them, and deliver information-laden products. Could this describe what our colleges and universities do? This session explores some of the key trends in technology and education to frame scenarios about the future of education. How will new learners integrate globalization, cloud computing, consumerization, mobility, and changing pedagogies into their education choices? How must schools and universities change compete for these learners in a world increasingly populated by globalizing commercial educators, expansion oriented first movers, growth oriented institutions from the emerging world, and a new generation of "edupunks and edupreneurs?"
